Selected via the Film Free Way platform, this program features experimental films from around the world that rethink repetition, stereotype, and how clichés can transform into visual inquiries.
The selection combines digital sensitivity, performative identity, and a corporeal approach to media.

Part II: Live Performance – Marijus Aleksa

One of Lithuania’s most talented contemporary percussionists, Marijus Aleksa will present an improvised solo – a sonic journey through rhythm, cultures, and time.
His music is like a deconstructed cliché: familiar elements are broken apart, reinterpreted, and reassembled.
It’s a modern drum narrative where jazz, electronics, and personal sonic landscapes meet.

International experimental film competition programme

The global fascination with films, which clearly includes social viewing experiences and encounters with film beyond the confines of the cinema, establishes film as ritual as a highly extended and culturally diffuse phenomenon. The concept of cinema as a ritual suggests that you see and accept that films act as a door to the awareness of the audience, affect their actions and their view of the world – essentially transforming them in one way or another. Cleansing the cinema from the lobby filled with descriptive posters and promotional displays, branded refreshments, and the ticket tearing usher to the advertisements and trailers noise, we invite you to the "Suspaustas laikas" program to study the "ritual" not around the cinema but in it by experiment

Join us for a three-day photography workshop with Dan Hermouet that encourages creativity and sustainability. Over the course of three days, you will learn to build recycled cameras, refine your shooting process, and explore innovative techniques for developing and printing photographs. No prior experience in photography or alternative printing is necessary.

Day 1: Build a Recycled Camera

Focus on building hand-made cameras from recycled materials such as drinking cans or boxes. You'll paint the inside of the camera black and create a pinhole suited to light conditions.

Day 2: Refine Your Shooting Process

Concentrate on improving your photography skills. Learn to make a potato-based ascorbic developer, shoot with your camera, develop the negative image, and contact print a positive.

Day 3: Direct Positive Photography

Expand your knowledge by learning to shoot direct positives using a reversal potato developer. You'll also learn toning techniques before fixing your prints.

Marín's work invites viewers to explore the nuanced interplay of light and shadow, form and fluidity, tradition and experimentation. Each film is a testament to the intricate synergy between memory, place, and the ephemeral nature of existence, weaving the theme of travel and ritual into a poetic narrative.

Ecopoetics II: The Ritual Called Dwelling

The concept of ecology is derived from the Greek root “oikos” - household. An ecopoetics of film expands our senses to include other-than-human dwellings, beyond material and form. Through the creative use of gesture, scale, repetition, cultural technique and chance, this program is a reminder of the need for experimental arts. This program is curated and introduced by Vilnius-based cine-artist Miklós (Miki) Ambrózy.

In his 35mm film performance Marek pays homage to the dawn of cinema whilst stepping away from cinema's industrial consistent mechanical reproduction of film frames. Exploring the 35mm projection with the dissonance of hand crank filming and projecting. What happens between the frames without industrial consistency?
Work is accompanied with analog sounds coming from film projector and other sound devices used by Başak Günak.

Ardentía is a word used by spanish seamen to refer to noctiluca in biology, a luminescent plankton that reproduces on the sea surface and is seen at night. It glares in darkness like burning water or stardust. Here acts as an allegory to hypnagogic vision, a free interpretation of pulsating phosphenes in our closed eyes.
An immersive experience of live cinema that highlights what are called fleeting defects of vision.

I’m interested in the mechanisms of perception and thinking of the image as a set of shapes and distances. My research investigates the meaning of space within the image. My works try to deconstruct the visible field, emptying it from its meaning. Moving forward I had the opportunity to rethink not only at the video itself but also at the moment when projection is meant as the spatial extension of the image.

Gavin Curtis is a member of the renowned English theatre company Punchdrunk. The independent theatre company was known for its unconventional performances, where audiences could boldly explore and become part of performances taking place in several different spaces. On Saturday evening, a British artist currently representing Skint Theatre will give a presentation on the relationship between theatre and cinema in the amphitheatre of the Nida Community House.
